FOR FREE TAX PREPARATION…. BRING THE FOLLOWING:

  • Picture ID
  • Social Security Cards (or ITINs) and dates of births for the taxpayer, spouse, and children and any other dependents you are claiming.
  • W2 form (Document provided by your employer listing your earnings and taxes paid.) 1099 Forms (Document listing your different sources of income. Most commonly used by people working under contracts.)
  • Copy of 2009 Income Tax Return if possible.
  • Bank account number, routing number. (Bring a voided check.)
  • First come, first served basis. Additional appointments are available at different dates

WHO QUALIFIES FOR FREE TAX PREPARATION?

  • Families with a combined income of less than $50,000.
  • Couples and singles without children earning less than $50,000.
  • Immigrants without a social security number will be assisted.

Predatory Lending and Foreclosure Awareness FREE Training Session

New Jersey Citizen Action is holding a FREE Train-the Trainer Session on Predatory Lending and Foreclosure Awareness on Thursday, February 24, 2011. The training will be held at the Greater Newark Business Development Center (GNBDC) office in Newark, NJ. The daylong session is designed specifically for housing counselors of HUD certified counseling agencies and for those in other agencies and organizations providing assistance and information to homeowners who may be facing foreclosure.

To reserve a place to attend the training session in Newark, please contact me at 732-246-4772, ext. 13 or at Roxanne@njcitizenaction.org. Kindly leave the name of the agency and the names of the counselors who will be attending.

The GNBDC’s office is located at 744 Broad Street, on the 26th Floor, in Newark, NJ 07102. The training will begin at 10:00 am and will end by 3:00 pm. Light refreshments will served in the morning and lunch will be served. There is no charge for the training. Trainees should arrive by 9:30 AM for coffee and registration so the training can begin on time.

Foreclosure Assistance

  • NJ Mediation Program - specialized counseling and interventions to prevent Sheriff sales.
  • **NEW** NJ Home Keeper Program - for homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure and have experienced a substantial reduction in income due to involuntary unemployment, underemployment, or a medical condition.
  • The Mortgage Assistance Pilot (MAP) - provides temporary financial assistance to income-eligible homeowners who wish to remain in their homes but are in imminent danger of foreclosure due to short-term financial problems beyond their control.
