Project Homeless Connect

Project Homeless Connect brings our community together twice a year to positively effect the lives of the homeless in Trenton and Mercer County. Connections made at this service fair can help the homeless to move off the street and out of homelessness.

Point-in-Time Count

Every year we count those in Mercer County who are experiencing homelessness. A large crew of volunteers does this work at Project Homeless Connect, at the shelters, on the street and other places where we know people congregate while homeless. Volunteers ask a series of questions that help us learn about who is homeless and what problems they have experienced. For a summary of what we have learned from these surveys, see the Research section of our report, The Next Five Years, or for an annual analysis, click on this link.

ID Project

Life on the street leads many homeless people to lose their IDs. To receive government benefits, it is essential to prove your identity. The Mercer Alliance works with homeless providers to help people experiencing homelessness regain and save these all-important documents. In the past year, Mercer Alliance and its partners have been able to assist 60 individuals to receive receive photo IDs. This ID will be needed to apply for housing or employment. It is the first step in a new future.

Consumer Focus Groups

The Mercer Alliance convenes regular meetings to listen to homeless people at the places they congregate – shelters, soup kitchen, drop-in center. The ID project emerged through these meetings.
