Consumer Panels

Mercer Alliance implemented a series of Consumer Panels, which are focus groups to listen to and understand how individuals became homeless, what happens once they become homeless, what services were needed and how services are communicated to the homeless population. The consumers will be given an honorarium and a meal for their time and participation. In the past we held consumer focus groups, their input has been very help. We are exploring several new projects because of their input.

A homeless newspaper with a resource page was one of their suggestions. The Wall, a project with Bonners students from TCNJ, Faculty and Staff and Mercer Alliance’s partners was launched this fall and the first issue is available now.

Since our core objective is to end homelessness by establishing resources for permanent and stable housing, it is now believed, and rightfully so, that consumers become the co-authors of the research, policy, planning, and services developed to address homelessness, housing, and service options. By respecting people who have experienced homelessness and incorporating their preferences and choices, more relevant and effective services are produced.

Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness desires to be at the forefront of implementing this new philosophy. Within this strategic framework, we are developing Consumer Panels within Mercer County to better address and understand the issues affecting our homeless population within the county.
